How to Keep Your Smile Clean and Strong

Posted .

Are you not quite sure how to take good care of your smile? If so, there is no need to worry. Dr. Rachel Meyer and our dental team are here to help you! We have the tips and information you need to keep your smile in tip-top shape.

First, brush your pearly whites twice a day. As you do so, use fluoride toothpaste and a soft-bristled toothbrush. These things can nourish your teeth as well as clean your chompers and care for your gums. Set a timer for two minutes while you brush and thoroughly clean each tooth. This can help you remove plaque and bacteria from the surfaces of your teeth.

Second, floss your teeth once a day. It’s vital to floss at least once a day because plaque and bacteria can live and grow in your smile. If they’re not removed, they can irritate your gums and promote gum disease. As you floss, use a product that is easy to use and be gentle along the gumline.

Third, visit Dr. Rachel Meyer twice a year (every six months). The dental cleaning and exam provided at our office can help you prevent major dental issues and keep your smile in tip-top shape. It can also allow our dental team to inspect your smile and provide treatment if needed.

Fourth, eat tooth-healthy foods. Sugar can promote tooth decay, so please limit sugar as much as possible. Tooth-healthy foods you can eat include raw vegetables, fruit, and dairy products. You can also help your smile by chewing on sugarless gum. This can help you produce saliva and wash bacteria off your smile.
